Adonis contacted us and was looking for a “different” way to present products on his homepage. He wanted something that simply showcased more… More products, more categories and above all, more pictures. As much as we like to think that people read what we write, very few visitors actually do. In a quest for efficiency perhaps, visitors focus their attention on images because they convey more information in less time. After careful consideration and a few back-and-forths, a design was settled upon that focused primarily on showing products images with very little text.
The homepage was going to be a grid of images. But to keep it interesting for the eyes, we broke up the columns by using images of 3 different sizes. This kept the design from looking like a boring and it allowed for certain images to have more weight. To further break up the grid, each of the product tiles uses a different font face, weight, color and size. Some images have borders and some do not. It really keeps the eye in motion, allowing the user to scan rapidly for what they want. When a product is found a simple mouse-over produces an opaque overlay deemphasizing the image and revealing a few words about the product.

To keep all products within range of a single click we included a persistent (fixed) header with deep navigation into the product catalog. And finally, the whole website was custom built on WordPress, allowing Adonis to modify his site without a degree in HTML, CSS, jQuery and PHP. We LOVE this site for its creativity and fantastic functionality. All clients should be this fun to work with – and all projects should be this rewarding to complete.
